The partnership supports the Inisiatif Kemahiran Teknikal dan
Ikthtisas SMART Selangor (IKTISASS) programme, and the MoU covers
collaborations in the following areas:
- Enhance knowledge transfer to increase lecturer capabilities on
Siemens solutions and technology - to further train
a total of fourteen (14) trainers who have previously completed the Train the
Trainer programme.
- Explore opportunities to develop, support and enrich training and module development for companies embarking on the Industry 4.0 journey– provide upskilling, reskilling and consulting with business owners, and promote the latest technology and digitalisation topics to SMEs and MNCs. The Selangor state aims to promote the IKTISASS programme to targeted Industry 4.0 companies to make their workforce getting relevant skills a reality.
- Explore the set-up of a Siemens training lab - to provide standardised and structured training based on curriculum from the company’s industrial training arm, SITRAIN - Digital Industry Academy.
- Explore the engagement of STDC as a Siemens training partner - with the aim to train 1,000 participants within a year.
Siemens is selected as a training
partner by SUK Selangor and STDC for a few reasons:
- It is a
leader in digital transformation and Industry 4.0;
- It has an established training program from SITRAIN - Digital Industry Academy;
- It provides hands-on practical training modules at different expert levels;
- It has a strong presence in ASEAN and an expansive installed base in Malaysia.
The collaboration aims to complement STDC’s efforts in focusing on
Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Levels 1 to 4 in the Kuala
Selangor main campus, while STDC Shah Alam will focus on Level 5 to Level 9
training, as well as upskilling and reskilling SMEs and MNCs nationwide. This
is also to increase the competitiveness of Selangor SMEs in the manufacturing
industry by transforming manual labour into automation, accelerating
digitalisation.
Adam Yee, President and CEO of Siemens Malaysia commented, “I would

partnership will integrate and enhance the development of education and skills
for relevant industry fields. I believe having three strong parties working
together will enable us to create a solid base for innovative strength and greater
competitiveness for Malaysia talents.”
Yee added, “The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of
adopting Industry 4.0 skills, and the need for us to create a dynamic ecosystem
and infrastructure for Malaysia’s digital economy as the world embraces
digitalisation. To do that, we need to provide more reskilling and upskilling
training to our workforce.”
Chief Minister of Selangor, Dato’ Seri Amirudin bin Shari stated,
“Selangor is committed to continue and strengthen IKTISASS. By 2030, Selangor
has pledged to contribute a total of 30% of the country's GDP in comparison to
the current 23%. We also aspire to make Selangor the best smart state in the
region that can provide 60% of business opportunities with the support of
highly skilled and professional workforce of the total high-skilled workforce
required in Malaysia.”
He also added, “The implementation of the IR4.0 skills training
facilities in collaboration with those industrial leaders under the IKTISASS
initiatives is one of the main pillars of the State Government's agenda in
human resource development and student marketability that can meet the needs of
the industries coming and retain investors in Selangor. This partnership with
Siemens is based on their past and ongoing work in providing different training
programs which are aligned with the state’s.”
Prof. Madya Ir. Dr. Muhidin Arifin, Chief Operating Officer of STDC
said, “The training centre in STDC Shah Alam has a consistent vision to become
a world-class centre for lifelong learning to build human capital and
professional skills in the State of Selangor through Technical and Vocational
Education and Professional Training. Therefore, to achieve this vision, STDC
Shah Alam will provide TVET learning leadership with best practices,
innovations, quality assurance and skills training capable of conducting
education and skills training of disruptive technologies with systematic
applied research works on sustainable human capital development as a catalyst
in increasing domestic and foreign direct investment in the latest industrial
revolution and economic development for the State of Selangor.”
The project will commence in STDC Shah Alam by January 2022, before
being introduced to other states.
