Siemens introduces latest innovations at World Future Energy Summit 2014

Joerg Scheifler, CEO of Siemens Infrastructure and Cities, Middle East, presented the company’s participation in the global event as an opportunity to showcase a diverse offering that fulfills the comprehensive vision of future energy for a world with limited conventional resources.
“Siemens approaches sustainability with the environment, business and society in mind, and this has guided us in providing products and systems that deliver sustainable power generation, more efficient power transmission, intelligent distribution and storage systems using smart grids and storage solutions, and efficient applications of energy – in transport, buildings and beyond,” said Scheifler.
He added: “The World Future Energy Summit 2014 is an opportunity for us to support Abu Dhabi’s leadership and to present our innovations, which we believe will help fulfill the region’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and making real progress in sustainable energy production and consumption.”
With the economic resurgence and revival of infrastructure projects in the UAE, and in light of massive future events such as Dubai’s win to host the World Expo 2020, there is a need to provide efficient, cost-effective and convenient power supply. Siemens’ Siestorage is one of three such timely innovations to be presented at WFES 2014. A fully-integrated power storage solution, Siestorage is an energy-efficient and convenient alternative to diesel-powered generators and the ideal option to overcoming energy and capacity overload and securing energy distribution; particularly useful in light of the string of large-scale activities and events hosted in the region.
Siestorage is a modular electrical energy storage system. It integrates renewable energy and optimizes the usage of fossil generation as part of a modern eco-friendly grid. The Siemens technology secures an uninterrupted power supply for industrial plants and in building technology and helps to avoid expensive peak loads.
Jan Teichmann, Director of Active Power Systems in the Low and Medium Voltage Division at Siemens AG, explained: “Siestorage is our solution for a reliable and sustainable energy supply to large-scale events and facilities. As the UAE and other GCC countries strive to move away from conventional energy dependence, Siestorage offers an ideal alternative for diesel generators and their harmful emissions.”
Also to be highlighted at the Summit is the electric bus (eBus) – an environmentally-friendly, electrically-powered bus with drive and charging technologies. The eBus will be an important step towards reducing greenhouse gas emission associated with travel to and for large events, with a unique technology that allows it to charge its batteries at each station and partially recover energy from braking.
Finally, WFES 2014 will also see the debut of the SIPROTEC product family from Siemens’ Smart Grid Division, which offers the first devices of their kind on the market to protect power lines, motors and generators, operating seamlessly with devices made by other manufacturers. SIPROTEC offers an integrated solution which starts with extensive protection and control functionality.
