XXX
The MOU supports the UAE’s National Energy Strategy 2050, which seeks to raise the efficiency of individual and institutional energy consumption by 40% by 2050 while increasing the share of clean energy in the country’s locally produced energy mix to 50% by the same year. The agreement also strengthens the UAE’s efforts to develop and adopt innovative policies and technologies to speed the nation’s progress toward a target of 44% renewable energy capacity by 2050.
“This agreement is a major step toward the ministry’s strategic objective of enhancing the UAE’s readiness for the future in the field of energy and infrastructure,” said UAE MoEI Official. “It reinforces our efforts to develop and implement a smart digital system for managing infrastructure projects in the country and improve efficiency in our buildings sector to reduce energy consumption.”
Siemens is a proven innovator of smart infrastructure technologies that enhance sustainability and optimize efficiency in buildings and urban facilities. The company also provides smart meters and other technologies for use at the interface between power grids and consumers, known as the grid edge. Siemens is the Premier Partner for Infrastructure Digitalization at Expo 2020 Dubai, delivering technologies to create a blueprint for future smart cities.
“We are honored to be begin this partnership with the UAE’s Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, and to contribute to the development of the country for the next 50 years, and beyond,” said Siemens Executive. “Siemens is committed to developing and deploying technologies that address the most pressing problems facing society and our planet, and it’s a goal that can only be achieved through close partnership between the public and private sectors.”
Cities account for about 80% of the energy consumed worldwide and generate roughly 75% of all carbon emissions. Buildings alone are responsible for about 80% of energy demand in the Gulf region, and much of that is wasted. Digitalization and smart infrastructure smart are crucial to making communities sustainable, efficient and safe.
