This year’s contest was held for five days from July 8 to 12 at the Hyundai Wia Technology Support Center in Changwon, Gyeongnam-do. Sixteen students among the total 275 participants were awarded. JiWoong Kim of Korea Polytechnic University Changwon Campus and JiWon Paik of Busan Automotive High School were honored with the Ministry of Employment and Labor Prize respectively in the university and high school categories, each receiving certificates and monetary prize of KRW 2 million. In addition, a total of approximately KRW 17 million and TV’s were awarded including the 'International Vocational Skill Olympic Chairman Prize', the Grand Prize, and the Excellence Prize, along with the Siemens Prize and the Hyundai Wia Prize, which were presented to two teams.
The Smart NC Contest, which marked its 6th year, is an event jointly organized by Siemens Korea and Hyundai Wia since 2014 with the aim of enhancing students’ technological capacity and nurturing on-site future technological talents. Siemens Korea and Hyundai Wia are the only companies organizing a NC machine tool contest in Korea.
The Smart NC Contest participants performed tests of programing skills to decide how a machine tool processes materials. Participating students were able to predict the cycle time of how many steps a product would have to go through by using Siemens Sinumerik CNC system’s milling and turning simulation program.
“I’m glad we are able to discover various talents with outstanding technical skills at the Smart NC Contest again this year,” said KwangHee Paik, General Manager of Digital Industry(DI) at SLS. “SLS will continue to support local future talents to enhance their technological creativity and unlimited potentials through the Smart NC Contest by providing in-depth field and on-site training.”
