Siemens Korea and Hyundai Wia Hold 5th Smart NC Contest Award Ceremony

This year’s contest was held for five days from July 9 to 13, at the Hyundai Wia Technology Support Centers based in Euiwang, Gyeonggi-do, and Changwon, Gyeongnam. 16 among the total 320 participants were awarded. JiGeon Ro of Ulsan College and JungGeun Yoo of Samchunpo Technical High School were presented with the honor of the Ministry of Employment and Labor Prize, respectively in university and high school category, each receiving certificates and monetary prize worth of KRW 2 million.  In addition, a total of KRW 17 million was awarded including the 'International Vocational Skill Olympic Chairman Prize', the Grand Prize, and the Excellence Prize, along with the Siemens Prize and the Hyundai Wia Prize, which were presented to the teams.
The Smart NC Contest, which marked its 5th year, is an event jointly organized by Siemens Korea and Hyundai Wia since 2014 with the aim of enhancing students’ technological capacity and nurturing future technological talents. Siemens Korea and Hyundai Wia are the only companies organizing a NC machine tool contest in Korea.
The contest required a simulation shape and its program to be submitted within two hours after programming a machine tool using Siemens SinuTrain NC program based on proposed drawings.  Participating students were able to predict how many steps a product would have to go through, as well as the cycle time, using Siemens Sinumerik CNC system’s simulation program without putting it through actual cycles.
From individual order production to mass-scale successive production, Siemens Sinumerik CNC offers a highly productive and optimum automation solution.
“The Smart NC Contest offers an excellent opportunity to students who want to grow as future technological talents,” said SungKuk Cho, Managing Director of NC divi-sion at SLS.  “We believe that participating students were able to further upgrade their technological capacity through participation in the event.”
