Siemens in Korea volunteered to help around 20 underprivileged households spend a warm winter with the delivery of charcoal briquettes in Baeksa Village, located in Nowon-gu, Seoul, on January 10.
About 50 employees from the company’s ‘The NANUM’ volunteer corps delivered a contribution of KRW 10 million, amounting to 12,500 briquettes, to Seoul Yeontan Bank. The volunteers handed out home-heating charcoal briquettes door to door for National Basic Livelihood Security recipient families, the elderly living alone, elderly couples, and lower income families. Since 2013, Siemens employees consistently have volunteered to deliver more than 120,000 charcoal briquettes in total over the past eight years and made donations of KRW 80 million to date.
“We hope that the small devotion and efforts of Siemens employees contribute towards underprivileged households for spending a warm winter,” said Mr. ChewKong Lum, President and CEO. “Such voluntary participation of our employees has enabled Siemens to consistently fulfill caring for our neighbors. Siemens will further continue to expand the corporate culture of sharing and supporting the local community.”
The NANUM was launched in 2013 to encourage all Siemens employees in Korea to take part in volunteer activities at least once a year. About 1,700 employees have participated in various activities to date. The group has conducted a total of 59 volunteer activities such as handing out charcoal briquettes, visiting the elderly living alone, serving meals to the needy and more, including 33 times from the head office in Seoul and 26 times from local regional offices.
