The 5th Siemens Green School Olympiad was held on August 8 at the Global Convention Plaza of Seoul National University, with participation of over 120 people, including 80 elementary school students, 30 university student volunteers and 15 Siemens employees. The ‘Siemens Green School Olympiad’ is an annual intensive course for the students who have previously participated in the Siemens Green School program. During the Siemens Green School Olympiad which was designed to increase the interest in environment and energy among the participants, students built up a Mars rover with the educational kit ‘LEGO WeDo 2.0’, based on the case of ‘Curiosity’, NASA’s Mars rover to which Siemens PLM software was applied in the design phase.
In the afternoon program under the theme “A company that the Earth wants to work for”, students worked in small groups to create ideas that address current environmental issues by creating environmentally-friendly companies. Through this team project, students shared ideas and took different roles to create virtual eco-friendly companies for solving environmental issues faced in daily life, such as plastic usage and air pollution. Mr. ChewKong Lum, President and CEO/CFO of Siemens Ltd. Seoul, said “Creativity and integrated thinking are must factors for fostering future talents in the era of Industry 4.0. Siemens will continue to provide diverse experience opportunities and quality education for elementary school students in Korea, thus contributing into cultivating scientific thinking and eco-friendly perspective.”
