Siemens Ltd. Seoul appoints Thomas Schmid as New Head of Digital Industries
Mr. Thomas Schmid said, “I am delighted to be leading the Operating Company Digital Industries for Siemens Ltd. With a strategy for digitalization and sustainable solutions, DI will do its best to support the Korean government and manufacturing industry and solidify technology leadership even in difficult economic times.” As the new Head of the Digital Industries at SLS, Mr. Thomas Schmid plans to lay the groundwork for the next level of digital transformation in Korea’s domestic industry through cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, edge computing, industrial 5G, autonomous handling systems, and additive manufacturing.
Born in Germany, Mr. Thomas Schmid joined Siemens AG in 1988. Renowned for his excellent leadership and great drive, Mr. Schmid is an industry expert, with 32 years of professional experience in industrial automation and digital platform. With experience in China and Japan, he is well known for his profound insight and understanding as well as his deep interest in the East Asian market. From 2002 to 2004 , he served as Senior Vice President and Corporate Officer in Yaskawa Siemens Automation & Drives Corp. in Japan, From 2004 to 2008 he worked as Senior Vice President and Head of Automation & Drives business in Germany and from 2008 to 2012 he worked as Senior Vice President and Head of Industry Sales in Siemens China. In 2012, he returned to Siemens AG(HQ) and served as Senior Vice President and Head of Industry Product & System Sales successfully executed digital factory business and strategic projects until the current appointment as Head of Digital Industries in SLS.
