Siemens K.K. (based in Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Kuni Horita;
hereinafter "Siemens") has signed a partnership agreement with
Macnica (based in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture; President: Kazumasa Hara;
hereinafter "Macnica") to provide products and services that
integrate both hardware and software domains. By linking data across the entire
cyber-physical system (CPS), which integrates hardware and software, the two
companies aim to accelerate the transformation of Japan's manufacturing industry.
Comprehensive Software and Hardware Support for PLM/MES Domains that Enable Design-Manufacturing Integration and CPS Implementation
To integrate the entire manufacturing process
and realize digital twins that link cyber and physical domains, support for
PLM/MES domains that connect design and manufacturing is essential, along with
hardware support to execute the software. Siemens' hardware products, which
comply with various national standards and incorporate functional safety and
security measures, hold world-leading market share and globally support
manufacturing. By combining this with our strengths in providing and
technically supporting the latest components such as semiconductors, sensing
devices, and GPUs from Macnica, we can implement various elements including
acceleration of CPS through AI and Edge Computing implementation; simulation
using digital twins and digital threads for machine/equipment manufacturers and
factory facilities; virtual commissioning; and Industrial Copilot.
Supporting Manufacturing Industry DX as a Siemens
Solution Partner*1
~Achieving Business Transformation Through Hardware-Software Integration
with Siemens and Macnica, Global Industry Leaders~
Through software, hardware, and services,
Siemens supports DX in manufacturing industries ranging from discrete to
process industries. By utilizing cutting-edge automation and digitalization
technologies, companies can optimize their design, engineering, and
manufacturing processes, enabling them to transform today's ideas into
sustainable products.
"Through our partnership with Macnica,
who has been leading the Japanese market in hardware, software, and technology
solutions, we are confident that we can contribute to the success of our
manufacturing customers in Japan. To achieve DX, it is essential to have a
partner who can comprehensively support the integration of design and
manufacturing, IT and OT, and software and hardware. With their deep
relationships built over half a century with various manufacturing industries
and their understanding of business processes, Macnica is a powerful force in
driving business model transformation. Furthermore, Macnica is our only
solution partner in Japan handling both hardware and software domains, making
them an extremely important strategic partner for us. Through this continued
collaboration between our companies, we will continue to support innovation and
sustainable growth in Japanese manufacturing," said Tobias Lang, Senior
Executive Operating Officer Digital Industries Head at Siemens K.K.
"Macnica has long supported the
introduction of cutting-edge global technologies centered on semiconductors,
gaining a deep understanding of the challenges and needs in design and
manufacturing sites. With Siemens' OT solutions now added to our portfolio, we
will further strengthen the foundation for data-driven manufacturing by
combining essential elements for manufacturing DX—such as visualization,
optimization, and automation of production processes. This will support our
customers in realizing digital twins and enhancing their competitiveness,"said Kazuyuki Sawada, Vice President of
Macnica, Inc., Altima Company.

'The Lost
30 Years': Japanese Manufacturing Industry's Challenge
While Japanese manufacturing once boasted high
competitiveness through advanced technical capabilities, quality, and workers'
high skills and motivation, in today's environment of increasing uncertainty -
characterized by irreversible technological and innovation acceleration,
changing customer expectations, globalization, and the need for rapid
decision-making - locally optimized business processes and personalized
knowledge have become burdens. As a result, many manufacturers are struggling
to maintain competitiveness as they have difficulties to quickly adapt to
changes. As reshoring of manufacturing progresses globally amid rising
geopolitical and geo-economic tensions, Japan faces serious labor shortages,
particularly of skilled technicians. To address these challenges and achieve
innovation, it is simultaneously necessary to utilize digital technologies and
automation, standardize business processes, leverage overseas best practices,
and focus on areas directly linked to customer satisfaction and competitiveness.
No True
DX Without Data Integration
To implement fundamental transformation, it is
necessary to achieve digital twins where the real and virtual worlds seamlessly
interconnect, utilizing data integration across the product lifecycle through
digital and simulation technologies not only in the product development phase
but also in the manufacturing phase. While the exponential evolution of IT can
accelerate DX when seamlessly implemented into the OT domain, there remains a
significant gap between the two areas. Additionally, solution vendors are often
divided between IT and OT, which frequently creates barriers to effective data
integration.
To address this, Siemens—one of the world’s
leading companies in both IT and OT, known for its ability to generate value
through the integration of hardware and software—and Macnica are advancing a
comprehensive partnership that includes not only software, which they have
already collaborated on, but also hardware. This enables full data integration
across the entire cyber-physical system (CPS). At Macnica, by connecting IT and
OT and realizing digital twins that link the virtual and the real, we aim to
provide integrated visualization across the entire engineering and supply
chains in manufacturing. This empowers both frontline workers and management to
make swift, data-driven decisions, contributing to improved productivity and
quality.
