Siemens sets new benchmark in energy-efficient industrial motors with latest launch

Siemens has an extensive range of IE efficiency class motors from 0.37 – 315kW. These IE efficiency class motors will be an addition to its existing range of motors and are targeted at a wide range of industries.
The 1SE0 N and 1LA2 N IE efficiency class motors have been introduced to help energy intensive industries like cement, metals, mining, textiles, pulp and paper etc.,  achieve significant reduction in energy consumption and thus reduce their carbon footprint.
“In view of the prevailing power situation in the country, energy-efficient motors become highly critical for the continuing operation of industries. Currently, nearly 70% of industrial power consumption is due to motors, and an energy-efficient motor will drive cost savings significantly. If all the motors that were manufactured and sold in India in one year were only high efficiency motors the energy saved is equivalent to the energy produced by a 600MW power plant in one full year,” said Dr. Armin Bruck, Managing Director, Siemens Ltd.
IE efficiency class motors, as compared to the non IE motors available in the market, offer substantial savings in energy. For example, when IE3 motors are used the customers can save anywhere up to 10% depending on the frame sizes. According to IEEMA, over two million motors are produced in India each year that together have an energy saving potential of more than 5 billion kWh of power if replaced with IE3 motors. Considering the investment for a 600MW power plant these energy-efficient motors have the potential to save nearly Rs 3,500 crore for the country as a whole.
“Siemens is always committed to meeting the local standards as well as the international norms. In line with this view, Siemens has encouraged industrial users to adopt global standards. With IS: 12615-2011 becoming effective from June 2011, users can now choose to install the IE2 / IE3 efficiency class motors for replacements or new set-ups,” said
Dr. Heiner Roehrl, Sector Cluster Lead (South Asia), Industry, Siemens Ltd. “Siemens Ltd. is in the forefront of innovation in the motors domain, having invested in a state of the art test field to test motors as per the latest standards. The reliability and efficiency of the Siemens range of motors is unmatched,” added Dr. Roehrl.
Siemens has been a pioneer in technology solutions for energy efficiency for many years, with many of its products being recommended for repeated use by end users. Energy-efficient products for the Indian market are a major part of Siemens sustainability initiative. Apart from generating savings, energy-efficient solutions assist customers to save the environment.
