The converter transformer with a single phase rating of 500 MVA will be connected to form a bank of 1500MVA, operating at a voltage of 500 kV. This is the largest rating transformer ever, as other local manufacturers have produced a rating of only one-third till now.
These transformers will be used for Adani Power Ltd project where Siemens is currently constructing a bipolar 2500 megawatts (MW) HVDC system planned to be commissioned early next year. The system with the converter transformers from Siemens will have the capacity to transmit bulk power of 2500MW over 900 kilometers from a power plant near Mundra to the industrial regions of Haryana.
Commenting on this significant achievement Mr. A.K. Dixit, CEO – Energy Sector, South Asia said, “Siemens has once again proved that we are pioneers in bringing high-end technology to India. HVDC Transformers are state-of-the-art products contributing to the green initiative of Siemens. Today we are dispatching the highest rating of HVDC Transformer manufactured in India and will continue to contribute significantly in development of transmission network in India.
“We are committed to contribute significantly to strengthen India’s Transmission system by bringing latest products and solutions from our local factories to our customers.” said Mr. Pawan Parikh, Vice President –Energy Power Transmission Division
The state-of-the-art factory inaugurated in 2007 designs and manufactures large transformers of power rating up to 600 MVA and 800 KV voltage meeting the international requirements. This is Siemens' first transformer factory in India, serving to satisfy the rapidly industrializing nation's demand for power. The facility has a capacity of manufacturing transformers totaling 15,000 MVA annually.
Energy efficiency high-voltage direct-current transmission technology (HVDC) is part of Siemens’ Environmental Portfolio. In fiscal 2009, revenue from the Portfolio totaled about EUR23 billion, making Siemens the world’s largest supplier of eco-friendly technologies. In the same period, the company’s products and solutions enabled customers to reduce their CO2emissions by 210 million tons. This amount equals the combined annual CO2 emissions of New York, Tokyo, London and Berlin.Text
