Siemens to build India’s first 765kV test laboratory at Bina for NHPTL  

Siemens Limited today announced that it has signed a contract worth Rs. 146.86 crores with Power Grid Corporate of India Ltd. (PGCIL) to build a 765kV test laboratory, the first -of-its-kind in India, at Bina, Madhya Pradesh for National High Power Test Laboratory (NHPTL). Siemens has bagged this order on a turnkey basis and will be executing the project as an end-to-end solution provider.
Siemens will be extending to this project some of its highly advanced technologies including 765kV Make Switch, Control and Monitoring System (CMS), and associated substations for 765kV and 400kV, among others. Siemens has also been contracted for the annual maintenance of this test laboratory for five years. The project has been rolled out with immediate effect and is expected to be commissioned in 14 months - by mid of calendar year 2013.
On winning this coveted contract, Mr. A.K. Dixit, CEO – Energy Sector, Siemens Ltd. said,

The execution consultant of this project is Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL), which will be the primary interface for Siemens, with CESI ITALY being the Technical consultant. NHPTL Pvt. Ltd. is a joint venture company formed by NTPC, NHPC, Power Grid, DVC and CPRI.

Dr. Lakshman Hari, CEO, NHPTL, in a recently held seminar, highlighted, "The facility that is being built at Bina in Madhya Pradesh will be India’s premier on line high power short circuit test facility. It will help power equipment manufacturers and national power utilities optimize cost and time by not having to go to international destinations for high power testing. It also opens gate for revenue generation as international power equipment manufacturers are welcome to come here and test their power equipments."
