Stuart Clarkson new CEO of Siemens South Africa

A born and bred South African, Clarkson is well positioned to lead the local operation of the electronic and engineering multinational that has had a presence in the country for over 110 years, having served with the organisation both in South Africa and internationally since 1981. In this time, Clarkson has filled various leadership roles culminating in his appointment in 2007 as Divisional Director for Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) on his return to the country, and later as head of the newly formed Siemens Industry Sector in South Africa.
As South Africa faces a number challenges, including the effects of a worldwide economic recession, Clarkson believes the prudent fiscal policies adopted by government in the past and increased spending in public infrastructure and power – two of Siemens main areas of competence, will ensure that the local operation continues to perform well. “Given our extensive expertise and track record in supporting the South African government and the private sector in the fields of energy, industry, healthcare as well as information and communication technologies, I look forward to expanding our role and enhancing our contribution to the growth and development of the South African economy,” he says.
Clarkson says that through Siemens’ focus on renewable energy and environmentally friendly products and services across the value chain, the organisation aims to act as an essential partner in the search for sustainable solutions that provide answers to the many problems faced by developing countries today. “Through proactive organisational policies and in line with global best practice, Siemens will continue to play a leading role in the development and transformation of South African society and the economy,” he says. “With a substantial BEE shareholding and employment equity practices that both predated existing legislation, Siemens aims to remain an employer of choice and continue to fulfil our role and meet our obligations as a good corporate citizen, committed to sound corporate governance and ongoing social responsibility.”
Siemens AG (Berlin and Munich) is a global powerhouse in electronics and electrical engineering, operating in the industry, energy and healthcare sectors. The company has around 420,000 employees (in continuing operations) working to develop and manufacture products, design and install complex systems and projects, and tailor a wide range of solutions for individual requirements. For over 160 years, Siemens has stood for technical achievements, innovation, quality, reliability and internationality. In fiscal 2008, Siemens had revenue of €77.3 billion and a net income of €5.9 billion (IFRS). Further information is available on the Internet at: www.siemens.com.
