With the support of Siemens, Hamburg, as the European Green Capital 2011, today launched the rolling, interactive exhibition "Visions for future cities." In the coming months, the "Train of Ideas" will be showing over 100 environmental projects in its six exhibit cars and providing information on central topics such as energy and mobility. Through its participation, Siemens wants to give fresh impetus to environmental protection and create a communication channel for sustainable technologies that will reach all parts of Europe.
Siemens is supporting the Train of Ideas with technical equipment and accompanying events, has provided a locomotive for the journey that can be used all over Europe and is showing exhibits which illustrate forward-looking technologies. In the exhibition car "The World of All," Siemens enables visitors at the push of a button to see how smart grids differ from existing grids and what advantages they offer. Films illustrate the contributions of Siemens to environmentally friendly power with its power generation and transmission offerings – for example with the development and production of wind turbines or with electromobility solutions. "Everyone can help to make our cities more livable. We also want to contribute and are actively involving ourselves in sustainable city development," said Michael Westhagemann, head of Siemens' Germany North Region at the launch of the Train of Ideas in Hamburg.
Siemens AG is not only one of the largest electrical engineering and electronics companies in the world, it is also one of the largest suppliers of environmentally friendly infrastructure solutions for cities. Technologies which cut CO2 emissions and help to protect the climate and environment already form one third of the company's revenue – with a strong upward tendency. Siemens' range of environmentally friendly products and services is demonstrably the most comprehensive in the world. The Environmental Portfolio enabled Siemens customers worldwide to reduce their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by a total of around 270 million tons. This is the equivalent of the total annual CO2 emissions of the world metropolises of Hong Kong, London, New York, Tokyo, Delhi and Singapore.
Siemens AG (Berlin and Munich) is a global powerhouse in electronics and electrical engineering, operating in the industry, energy and healthcare sectors. For over 160 years, Siemens has stood for technological excellence, innovation, quality, reliability and internationality. The company is the world's largest provider of environmental technologies, generating some €28 billion – more than one-third of its total revenue – from green products and solutions. In fiscal 2010, which ended on September 30, 2010, revenue totaled €76 billion and net income €4.1 billion. At the end of September 2010, Siemens had around 405,000 employees worldwide.
