Siemens’ software enables utilities to gain visibility of the distribution grid and reach net-zero

Gridscale X DER Insights addresses the unforeseen consequences that DERs have on the
grid’s stability, by providing better insights into what is happening behind the meter and how
this impacts the grid. It is part of Siemens Xcelerator, an open digital business platform that
enables customers to accelerate their digital transformation more easily, faster and at scale.
By unlocking visibility over the distribution grid, Gridscale X DER Insights enables users to
prioritize upgrades, optimize investments and reduce costs by leveraging DER flexibility to
get the most out of the grid, increasing capacity and thus accelerating the path to net zero.
The cloud technology, which is available as SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) can be
seamlessly deployed and integrated into the existing system landscape of utilities.
“With the electrification of everything and the exponential growth of DERs, there is an urgent
need for increasing grid capacity fast. More efficient DER management and visibility over the
grid is absolutely essential. With technology such as DER Insights, utilities now have the
ability to unlock the full potential of the grid with next-level DER visibility. This enables them
to focus on critical infrastructure upgrades to be ready for the energy transition and reduces
the impact and occurrence of grid equipment failure, outages and technical debt,” said
Sabine Erlinghagen, CEO Siemens Grid Software.
Leading the path towards autonomous grid management, Siemens has also
partnered with EnergyHub, a leading grid-edge DER management solution provider, to complement its
Mercury DER Management platform with DER Insights. This software provides key insights
for the EnergyHub customers to address grid constraints by leveraging available flexibility,
expand programs with DERs that have been uncovered with the software and improve
current DER management programs.
