“With the RRX project, we have succeeded in
implementing a digitally networked, high-performance mobility solution for the
roughly ten million people living in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region,” said
Gerhard Greiter, CEO of Region Northeast Europe at Siemens Mobility.
“Everything in this project is digitally networked: trains, service centers,
logistics centers and employees. The improved punctuality of the trains and
their almost 100-percent availability underscore the success of the project.”
Rhine-Ruhr Express project is unique due to its sheer dimensions and scale of
innovation. Both, the trains and maintenance are provided by the same source.
Siemens Mobility is supplying a total of 84 state-of-the-art Desiro HC regional
trains and will be responsible for their maintenance and repairs until 2050.
The last train in the order will be delivered this year. The RRX is a true
regional project: Production, tests and maintenance are all carried out at
Siemens locations in the state of North-Rhine Westphalia.
