Growing ETCS business in Slovakia and Czech Republic
Siemens Mobility Slovakia has been awarded a contract by the Slovak rail vehicle
manufacturer ŽOS Vrútky to retrofit up to 26 locomotives (option of three
additional locomotives) of the Czech railway company ČD Cargo (ČDC) with ETCS
Level 2 Technology. The locomotives class 240 will be equipped with the
ETCS Trainguard 200 on-board unit for operation across the Czech Republic,
Slovakia and Hungary. This project is the third project that Siemens Mobility
and ŽOS Vrútky are executing together. “We are honored about the renewed signs
of trust from ŽOS Vrútky. Our proven ETCS on-board technology will help ČD
Cargo to achieve their modernization and performance goals,” said Branislav
Voska, CEO of Siemens Mobility Slovakia. With ETCS Level 2, the locomotives
will be able to operate with a greater degree of efficiency while meeting the
European standards for interoperability.
