“Digital Train Control System” for

VGF and Siemens Mobility to build the train control system of the future
for Frankfurt
Major public transport infrastructure project and milestone in the
mobility transition
VGF,
Frankfurt’s public transport provider, will replace the conventional train control
system currently used in its metro and tram network with a new,
state-of-the-art digital system. The “Digital Train Control System Frankfurt” is
one of the company’s most important projects for the future. Following a public
procurement procedure initiated in early 2021, the VGF is now awarding the important
contract to Siemens Mobility.

VGF,

About the
VGF: The VGF is Frankfurt’s urban transport company. In
2020, it carried 119.8 million passengers on nine metro lines, ten tram lines,
and 133.52 kilometers of routes. (In 2019 and before the corona pandemic, 202.5
million passengers traveled on the VGF trains.) More than 2,400 employees
provide public mobility with around 400 rail vehicles in a city with a population
of 758,847 and more than 350,000 workday commuters. The VGF is also responsible
for the system’s fixed infrastructure, which includes 84 metro stations, 27 of
which are underground, and 139 tram stops.
