Siemens is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its brewing system Braumat

Alongside hops, malt, yeast and water, a fifth kind of raw material is becoming more and more important for breweries: process data – from incoming raw materials to outgoing finished goods. Process data provides the basis for optimizing operations, saving energy and increasing the output when capacities are low or remain constant. Even 40 years after its launch, Braumat continues to control brewery processes worldwide. The process control system from Siemens covers all production areas, increases transparency, flexibility and quality. The entire brewing process is supported, for instance, by a recipe system based on the international standard ISA 88 which tracks the production progress on the monitor, helps to flexibly plan the production process or implement a cost-effective tank management.
"In time for its 40th anniversary, we are aligning Braumat with the new opportunities opened up by digitalization," says Kai Schneiderwind, head of the Food & Beverages sector at Siemens. "The new version of Braumat extends the proven control system reliably used in hundreds of breweries around the world to include advanced features such as the replay mode or the multi-platform capability for major automation systems. In this way, our customers are assured they continue to fully rely on a modern Braumat also in the future."
Digitalization plays a key role for the new Braumat version as it creates the prerequisites for responding quickly, flexibly and economically to current market requirements. Digitalization makes the large volume of data in breweries transparent and clearly laid out: from goods inwards to goods outwards, from the brewing kettle to the management level, from the development of the product to the beer glass. Whether it is about remedying a fault in the brewing process or developing a new type of beer and launching it into the market: The vertical and horizontal integration of all data collected over the entire life cycle enables a faster way of taking well-founded decisions and action.
