The Finnish Transport
Infrastructure Agency and Siemens Mobility Oy have signed an agreement to renew
signalling systems in the Oulu and Kokkola railway yards
The contract for delivery
of the signalling systems for the Oulu and Kokkola railway yards includes the
delivery of interlockings and trackside cabinets.
Oulu railway yard is one of
the largest and busiest railway yards in Finland. The existing signalling
systems in the Oulu and Kokkola railway yards have reached the end of their useful
life and will be completely renewed. New signalling system will improve the
safety of the railway yards and will enable the introduction of the European
rail traffic management system (ERTMS) in the future. The work to be carried
out during the contract period enables disturbance-free traffic and
significantly reduces the maintenance backlog of the railway yard.

Siemens’ delivery includes
the signalling system design, delivery, indoor installation, testing and
commissioning of the system.
“Siemens has strong expertise
as a leader in the digitalisation of rail transport. It’s great to be involved
in promoting smoother and safer use of railway yards,” says Siemens Mobility Oy
CEO Juha Lehtonen.
The commissioning phase of
the signalling systems will take place in the 2022 – 2023 period. The project
will be completed by the end of 2023.
