From the laboratory to the forest: Siemens presents unprecedented results in the Amazon and paves the way for a new generation of sustainable solutions

The initiative was born after mapping more than 70 local actors and an active listening process that identified structural challenges in the region, such as environmental variability and low connectivity. Based on this diagnosis, the Proofs of Concepts (PoCs) were defined that address essential stages of the bioeconomy: seedling production, extraction of essential oils, processing of bioingredients, and classification and treatment of Brazil nuts. Prior to implementation, bottlenecks were common: low traceability, recurring losses, and operational limitations. The PoCs have shown that technology generates concrete gains.
In the production of seedlings with the CBA (Amazon Biotechnology Center), mortality in the acclimatization phase plummeted from 34% to only 2% with the introduction of sensors and automation that ensured a stable microclimate. In the Brazil nut chain, in partnership with Getter, a computer vision solution with AI embedded in Siemens Industrial Edge was validated, which classifies nuts with more than 95% accuracy, even offline. An analysis estimates that the improvements can generate an increase of up to 15% in the value of bioproduct exports, a market of R$ 3 billion annually.
For Amazon bioingredient processing, PoC with AMZ Foodtech digitized modular nanofactories with a solution in Mendix, raising the standardization and traceability of production orders from 0% to 100%. In the extraction of essential oils, PoC Moiru, co-created with Natura and the APROCAMP cooperative, used sensors and simulations to optimize the parameters and control of the process, increasing safety by reducing the boiler pressure from 4.3 to 2 bar and creating the first structured database of the operation.
"Tech4Amazonia shows that it is possible to apply cutting-edge technology in one of the most challenging contexts in the world and generate concrete results, reducing losses, raising quality and creating new income opportunities," says José Borges, Head of Strategic Innovation at Siemens Brazil. He also states that "technology enhances what already exists, bringing efficiency, predictability and real conditions to develop the bioeconomy with scale and value. Now, the next step is to scale these solutions and amplify their impact."
Complementing the PoCs, Siemens developed, in partnership with the CERTI Foundation, a digital environment of open innovation to connect challenges in the Amazon to technological solutions, accelerating the formation of new partnerships. With the success of the validations, Tech4Amazonia is preparing for the scalability phase and was one of Siemens Brasil's highlights at Hannover Messe 2026, the largest industrial technology fair in the world, presenting the country's potential in the global bioeconomy.
