Siemens launches VersiCharge, a new generation of fast AC chargers for all electric vehicles in Asia Pacific

Siemens has launched VersiCharge, a sleek and compact electric vehicle alternating current (AC) smart charger capable of delivering up to 22kW of power through a Type 2 Plug or Socket, in Asia Pacific. It allows electric vehicles to be charged quickly, safely and cost-effectively.
Measuring a little over a size 10 shoe box, the VersiCharge can be installed in any parking lot in public housing, private homes, condominiums, shopping malls, offices, airports and hospitals. It can be wall or pedestal mounted and comes with an in-built RFID reader for user authentication. The smart charger is compliant to IEC and UL standards and meets a protect class of IP56 and IK10, making it weatherproof for outdoor use and able to last for a long time.
The VersiCharge seamlessly ties into many network topologies, comes equipped with GSM/4G/LTE, Wifi, Ethernet and Modbus, and is compatible with OCPP 1.6 backend protocol. With simple touch buttons and LED indicators for key functions, the unit is intuitive and simple to operate.
The Siemens VersiCharge Mobile App (available on Google Play Store & Apple iTunes) further increases the usability and configurability of the charger when connected. It allows users to schedule charging time, view energy consumption, check charge status and more. The ability to pre-set the start time of the charging process, in two-hour intervals, between two to eight hours, enables users to take advantage of economical electricity rates outside of peak periods and to significantly lower electricity costs.
“We’ve developed the VersiCharge with sustainability, optimization and longevity in mind. We want to help our customers meet their carbon reduction targets with a future-proof product that is easy to maintain and scale,” said Siddhant Gupta, Head of Future Grid for Siemens in Asia Pacific.
At offices, malls and other shared spaces, the VersiCharge can be intelligently networked with 24 other units in a parent-child configuration to optimize interfacing with OCPP 1.6 compliant software backend and to building management systems for energy and load management. Owners can also make targeted use of their own generated energy, such as from solar panels, thus optimizing their power consumption. In addition, Siemens provides cloud-based remote diagnostics and over-the-air updates to future proof the smart charger.
The VersiCharge is available in both single-phase and three-phase versions for rated current up to 32 amps. For an average passenger car, the charging time for a power of 22 kW is between 2.5 to 4 hours.
Siemens is committed to supporting electrification for customer segments across all vehicle categories. Its solutions are geared to maximize the abilities of electric vehicles to act as distributed energy resources, as well as enable the effective harnessing of renewable sources. To date, Siemens has delivered charging solutions in over 35 countries. The company continues its focus on customers in the car, bus, fleet, and truck markets across Asia Pacific.
