The United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure signed a memorandum of understanding with Siemens to start negotiations aimed at establishing a long-term partnership to help the ministry reach its sustainability and digitalization targets. The discussions will cover technologies for smart buildings, microgrid and industrial energy management, and intelligent substations on the grid edge.

The first Expo to be held in the Middle East, Asia, or Africa gives visitors a chance to experience how digitally-connected smart cities can help overcome some of humanity’s most pressing challenges. As the Premier Partner for Infrastructure Digitalization at Expo 2020 Dubai, Siemens has digitally linked more than 130 buildings at a purpose-built site twice the size of Monaco. About 80 percent of Expo’s infrastructure will remain after the six-month event ends in March 2022, forming the core of a sustainable new urban district of Dubai, known as District 2020. The Expo site itself is designed as a blueprint for future smart cities everywhere.

Siemens in Egypt appointed Dalia Shoukry as the Chief Financial Officer of the company. Shoukry has over two decades of experience in corporate finance in the pharmaceuticals industry. Prior to Siemens, she was AstraZeneca’s international finance director, and previously held senior financial roles based in Egypt, the U.K. and France with responsibilities spanning Europe, the Middle East and Africa at AstraZeneca and Bristol Myers Squibb. She earned a degree in accounting from Ain Shams University.

The National Authority for Tunnels, a governmental authority under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transport of Egypt, and Siemens Mobility have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) - together with the local companies Orascom Construction S.A.E. and The Arab Contractors (Osman Ahmed Osman & Co.) - to design, install and commission Egypt’s first ever high-speed rail transportation system. Additionally, Siemens Mobility will be providing maintenance services. The agreement comprises a rail system with a network of 1000km, with the first being a 460km high-speed line. The order value of this initial high-speed line is around 3bn$.

In a new move aimed at improving the resilience of Egypt’s power transmission network, Siemens Energy has been selected by the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) to connect Bashaer El Khair City project in Alexandria city with the country’s national grid. The new grid project will help supply electrical power to more than 25,000 residential units, in over 250 apartment buildings and service centers.

Siemens Energy has signed a long-term preventive maintenance contract with the Egyptian Ethylene and Derivatives Company (ETHYDCO), for its industrial complex in Alexandria, Egypt.

Siemens Energy was selected to provide centrifugal compressor systems for Saudi Aramco’s Hawiyah Unayzah Gas Reservoir Storage (HUGRS) project. The plant includes a gas injection facility with a capacity of 1,500 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) (42,475,270 cubic meters per day, or m3/d) and a withdrawal facility capable of processing up to 2,000 MMSCFD (56,633,693 m3/d) of gas.
