Siemens Mobility's Vectron locomotives are used for both freight and passenger service. During the development of the locomotive, the focus was on providing a future-proof design, investment security, environmental compatibility, fungibility, retrofitting capability and convertibility. The Vectron can be delivered as a purely electrical version for operating with alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC) power systems as well as a multisystem (MS) variant in the power classes 5.2 MW, 5.6 MW and 6.4 MW. Along with the desired national train control system, the locomotives can also be equipped with the latest European Train Control System (ETCS). The locomotives are built in the Siemens Mobility plant in Munich-Allach, Germany. For freight transport in Germany, Siemens Mobility also offers the Smartron standard locomotive and the Vectron Dual Mode, a combination of diesel and electric locomotive.
- Running from Austria to Norway without changing
locomotives
- First locomotive with ETCS control system on
the Öresund Bridge
The Vectron has
received official approval for operating along the Scandinavian Corridor
(AT-DE-DK-SE-NO). This enables both freight and passenger trains to run along
the entire corridor without changing locomotives. The first to take advantage of
this is the Swedish rail operator Snälltåget, which has leased three Vectron
locomotives from European Locomotive Leasing (ELL) for cross-border passenger
service in Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Austria. The Vectron, manufactured in
the Siemens Mobility plant in Munich-Allach, is the first locomotive equipped
with the ETCS train control system that is allowed to operate across the 16-kilometer
long Öresund connection (bridge and tunnel) between Sweden and Denmark. The locomotive
uses the globally proven Trainguard 100/200/300 ETCS on-board unit from Siemens.
- Delivery
of 10 Vectron MS multi-system locomotives
- From
the Dutch North Sea to the Mediterranean without changing locomotives
Beacon Rail, a rolling stock leasing company, has ordered 10
Vectron MS multi-system locomotives from Siemens Mobility. Beacon Rail plans to
have the locomotives operate along the Rhine-Alpine corridor and between the
North Sea ports and the European hinterland. This order will give Beacon Rail an
overall portfolio of 170 Vectron locomotives.
Siemens Mobility is supplying 21 Vectron Dual Mode locomotives to Deutsche Bahn. This is the first deployment of the Vectron Dual Mode in passenger transport. The locomotives are intended for trips to Sylt in the north and Oberstdorf in the south of Germany.
- Delivery of 15 Vectron MS locomotives
- MSC subsidiary MEDWAY Belgium NV will take
delivery of equipment and is a new customer of Siemens Mobility
- Locomotives can operate in 12 European
countries
Siemens
Mobility has received an order from MSC subsidiary MEDWAY Belgium NV for 15 Vectron
MS locomotives. MEDWAY plans to use the locomotives for cross-border freight
transport in Europe and also for supplementing container transport by ship in
serving the eastern hinterland of Antwerp.
- Maintenance for Vectron locomotives over a
period of 15 years
- Cloud-based Railigent X applications to ensure
efficient maintenance processes
Alpha Trains, the
leading locomotive and trains lessor in Europe, has awarded Siemens Mobility a
long-term service and maintenance contract. The contract covers the complete
maintenance of Vectron locomotives over a period of 15 years, including revisions
at the Siemens Rail Service Center in Munich-Allach. Maintenance of the
locomotives will be tailored to their operation and carried out as needed in
thirteen different countries at the Siemens Mobility Service facilities located
along the major trans-European rail corridors.
- Delivery of 14 Vectron MS
multisystem locomotives
- MRCE fleet includes 147 Vectron
locomotives
Mitsui Rail
Capital Europe (MRCE), a full-service locomotive leasing company, has ordered
14 Vectron MS multisystem locomotives from Siemens Mobility on the basis of an
existing contract. With this order, MRCE will have a fleet of 147 Vectrons.
MRCE plans to use the locomotives in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Poland, the
Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, and the Netherlands.
- Siemens Mobility delivers Vectron AC locomotives
- Contract includes maintenance for eight years
Reichmuth & Co Investment Management AG has ordered 35 Vectron AC locomotives from Siemens Mobility through its investment vehicle LokRoll 3 AG. LokRoll 3 will lease the locomotives to SBB Cargo for eight years through its asset manager Northrail GmbH, which it commissioned for the deal. The entire transaction was arranged and structured by Paribus Rail Investment Management GmbH. The lease also includes local maintenance of the locomotives by Siemens Mobility for eight years. The Vectrons will be manufactured at the Siemens Mobility plant in Munich-Allach and delivered in 2024.
- First order for multisystem locomotives with XLoad equipment package
- XLoad enables significantly higher trailer loads
- Contract includes locomotives and their maintenance
Switzerland’s SBB Cargo International AG, in cooperation with SüdLeasing GmbH, has ordered 20 Vectron multisystem locomotives equipped with the XLoad package from Siemens Mobility. SBB Cargo International will lease the locomotives from SüdLeasing under a long-term rental plan with a flexible term. The contract also includes maintenance of the locomotives by Siemens Mobility. Vectron XLoad is an equipment package developed to improve traction performance and increase trailer loads. With this XLoad option, for example, operators on the North-South Corridor will be able to use only one rather than two four-axle locomotives for a train. The Vectrons are designed for a maximum operating speed of 160 km/h. The locomotives will be delivered beginning in 2024.
On October 22, 2021 the 1000th Vectron locomotive left the
plant at Munich-Allach, where the locomotives are built. The locomotive is
destined for Danish State Railways DSB. To date, Siemens Mobility has sold 1,122
Vectron locomotives to 57 customers in 16 countries. The Vectron fleet has so
far accumulated more than 500 million kilometers in service. The locomotives
based on the Vectron platform are approved for operation in 20 European
countries.
