Wide range of connections and excellent availability – New firmware V3.1 extends the possible uses of the Simatic RTU

The RTU3000C is available in various versions for flexible connection to the remote control network, for example via external industrial routers such as Scalance M or an integrated UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) modem (RTU3030C/3031C). The RTU3031C includes GPS (Global Positioning System), which means that it even covers applications that require positioning. The compact RTUs are optimized for low-power operation and are ideal for self-sufficient use in environments with no power grid. Power can be supplied from batteries, a rechargeable battery with solar panel or a 12-24 V DC (Direct Current) power supply unit. Configuration is via web-based management.

User-friendly remote access

With firmware version V3.1 for compact Simatic RTU3000C remote terminal units, Simatic PDM can be used. PDM (Process Device Manager) is a manufacturer-independant tool for project engineering, configuration, diagnostics and maintenance of intelligent sensors and field devices. They are connected to the optional extension board Hart/RS485 via Modbus RTU or Hart multidrop and thus connected directly to the RTU3000C. This enables user-friendly remote access to connected Modbus RTU or Hart sensors for remote maintenance applications. The process data acquired by the outstation is timestamped and transmitted to the control center via remote control protocols such as DNP3, IEC 60870-5-104, Sinaut ST7 or TeleControl Server Basic. Reading is of course also possible via the remote connection.

More efficient encryption and fast dial-in time

With firmware version V3.1, the RTU3000C supports connection to a redundant DNP3 master. In addition, extended quantity structures of function blocks and memory bits (digital/analog) are supported.

Other features include more efficient encryption mechanisms with elliptic curve ciphers (ECDHE-RSA and ECDHE-ECDSA) for TLS (Transport Layer Security) connections, protocol for encrypted data transmission links and VPN (Virtual Private Network), a faster dial-in time in the mobile communication network and additional logging functions.
