Controlled access – Companies benefit from new reader for controlled access to machines and plants

Siemens is extending its RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) portfolio to include the new Simatic RF1040R reader, which supports LF-transponder systems (125 kHz) and HF systems (13,56 MHz)

The new reader Simatic RF1040R is in addition to the LF standard also compliant with ISO14443 A/B (Mifare – contactless chip card technology) and ISO 15693. Like all readers in the RF1000 series, the RF1040R has an USB port and can be integrated into software applications under Windows 7, 8 and 10 as well as into existing hardware solutions such as HMIs (Human Machine Interfaces) or panels and control infrastructures. A Simatic RF170C communication module, a Simatic ET200SP distributed I/O, PCs or third-party HMIs can be connected via the serial RS232 interface. Using the newly available Config card, which sets up the reader for customer-specific parameters, user data can now be read and written to the employee ID card in addition to reading the Unique Identification (UID).

Compact and robust

With its compact, robust design, high degree of protection of IP65 (at the front - protected against the ingress of water and foreign bodies) and wide temperature range from -25 to +55 degrees Celsius, the Simatic RF1040R – which is developed and manufactured in Germany - is ideal for use in cramped, harsh industrial conditions.
