High engineering costs have always been a problem for Tipper in terms of competitiveness. The drive and control technology used previously in the company had grown organically and was therefore very heterogenous. In addition, operation was complex and slow using a touch panel with industrial PC (IPC). The solution from Siemens for standardization of the automation technology and drives is fully integrated into the TIA (Totally Integrated Automation) Portal engineering framework. The distributed I/O used by Tipper is a Simatic ET200 controller and the servo drives are Sinamics S210 converters. For operation, a compact and hygienic TP900 PCT touch panel with exclusive stainless steel housing is used. The glass-fronted panel is particularly user-friendly and intuitive.
Quicker engineering for more competitiveness
With the new solution, which is already in use in a pilot plant, Tipper expects to reduce engineering time by up to 66 percent. This will in turn reduce costs and increase the company’s competitiveness worldwide.
